1973 24′ Champion Motorhome Second Info Update
Well, it is still too wet out to crawl underneath so I am going to talk to you about my 1973 24? Champion Motorhome and what I would like to do with it.
First off, the dual exhaust is toasted, so that must be fixed, otherwise I cannot get it inspected for plates, etc. Because I want to convert the engine to hydrogen I need to plan ahead by getting stainless steel for it, as that will not rust from the water that is resultant from the combustion of the hydrogen. If you have seen Jay Leno’s Garage where he shows himself drinking the water from the tailpipe of the new BMW 7 series hydrogen powered car, then you will understand why I need to go this route.
The next thing that is a must for the inspection is the rear brakes. The previous owner left it sitting on the grass for 3 years, so the brake drums are seized. At this stage I do not know what all needs to be replaced, but I am fairly certain that everything inside, possibly even the wheel cylinders will need replacing. None of this I will know for sure until I jack it up and pull off the two wheels on one side. I did find out from the info at Champion Fleet Owners as to where to get the proper parts from. I will post their link later on.
To do the hydrogen conversion, the best way is by getting a conversion kit that allows you to run the engine on LPG [or Propane if you are not familiar with that acronym]. It essentially makes the intake system closed so that gas can be injected into the carburetor which then does as normal. The rest is dependant on whether I want to run HHO [Browns Gas], Hydrogen or LPG.
This brings me to the lack of the Onan generator which provides electricity. If I take this route, they already have a model made to handle propane, which means it would also run whichever gas I wanted to run. But I would much prefer to find someone who has made Howard Johnson’s Permanent Magnet Motor that I could stuff into the same spot to handle all my electricity needs.
I think I will stop at this, but will fill you in on more things that need to be done and why I want to switch the toilet to the Incinolet toilet instead of staying with what is currently in here.
I am not very good at begging for donations and I am sure you get lots of it. So, I will say that with 17+ years in Internet Technology behind me and my own leased server online, I can build you a website and host it, or can redesign/design your website along with some graphics, and proper SEO strategies employed. This way we are both happier because we both did and got something for the money. You can see the above digital image I created….it took me about 5 minutes to create, so I do know a little bit. Just email me at webmaster at earthquakie dot com and let me know what you were thinking of.
If however you are not adverse to donating, here is the link:
